Locksmith in Vallauris
Vallauris comes in two halves that have little in common: the potters’ town inland, and Golfe-Juan down on the shore, with its harbour and its summer season.
Locksmithing in Vallauris, in practice
The centre of Vallauris is a dense small town of terraced houses and workshops, inherited from its ceramics tradition. Many ground floors are former workshops converted into homes or shops, with wide doors, sometimes metal ones, and locking arrangements that have little to do with ordinary domestic locksmithing.
Golfe-Juan runs to a different rhythm: seaside buildings along the front, small co-owned blocks, holiday lets and shops open through the summer. Keys change hands a great deal between tenants there, and replacing the cylinder between two stays is a recurring request.
In between, the hillside neighbourhoods mix detached houses and small blocks of flats. The sea air is present without being as aggressive as on the front itself, but it is enough to age south-facing mechanisms: a key that has been catching for weeks always ends up snapping in the lock.
Vallauris, neighbourhood by neighbourhood
We cover the whole town. Each area has its own building stock — and therefore its own recurring requests.
Vallauris centre
Streets on a grid around avenue Georges Clemenceau and place Paul Isnard: terraced houses, former ceramic workshops turned into homes or shops, wide leaves, rim locks and metal shutters inherited from the clay trade.
Golfe-Juan
Between the railway and the beach, seaside blocks and small condominiums live by the season: weekly lets, underground garages, cylinders exposed to salt and keys changing hands from one stay to the next.
Les Encourdoules
On the hill north of the old town, around the ancient hilltop site, houses and estates reached by narrow lanes: a gate comes before the door, and the control boxes stand out in the rain.
Le Vallon
The dip linking the old town to the sea mixes small blocks, storage units and workshops still in use: service doors, rear entrances and workshop shutters count as much here as flat doors.
Super-Cannes
On the heights shared with Le Cannet, large enclosed properties reached by hairpin lanes: powered gates, long drives, outbuildings and plant rooms multiply the ways in around a single house.

Door opening
Vallauris comes with two possible addresses: the grid of the potters' town inland, or the Golfe-Juan seafront. Saying which of the two is what saves the most time.

Between two tenants in Golfe-Juan it is almost always the cylinder that gets changed. On an old workshop door up in the town the question is a different one: nothing about the mechanism is standard.

Round here locks give warning long before they fail: a key that has been catching for weeks in Golfe-Juan ends up snapping inside the barrel one July morning.

A forced door in Vallauris raises two questions at once: closing the home again, and not wiping away what the police need to record on the frame.
Securing your home after a break-in in VallaurisDoor reinforcement
In Vallauris, reinforcement turns on two things before anything else: what the door actually measures, and what can be carried up to it.
Door reinforcement in VallaurisSmart lock
In Golfe-Juan a smart lock answers a seasonal problem first of all: handing access to someone you will never meet, then taking it back cleanly.

A safe is worth no more than the wall holding it. In Vallauris that wall runs from old stone up in the town to a light partition in a seafront block: not the same job at all.

I live in Golfe-Juan but my post says Vallauris. What should I say on the phone?
Both names cover the same town and the same 06220 postcode, but not the same place. Say first whether you are on the seafront or up in the old town, then the street and a landmark anyone can see: the harbour, the station, place Paul Isnard, the Vallon climb. The drive is not the same either way.
I let my Golfe-Juan flat by the week. Should the cylinder be changed after every departure?
Not every time, but certainly when a set has not come back, when a key has passed through a shared box hooked onto a railing, or when a copy could have been cut during the stay. A clutch cylinder also stops you being shut out when a key has been left in on the inside, which happens fast with occupants changing every week.
My key has been catching since last summer. Should I wait until it snaps?
No. A key that catches is telling you the barrel is clogged or the blade is worn, and this close to the sea it never sorts itself out. At that stage the work is often a clean, a dry lubricant and a new key cut. Waiting for the full seizure at the door means a far heavier job.
The burglary happened while I was away for the winter. Is it too late to claim?
No, but the reporting period runs from the moment you discover the theft, and you must be able to date that discovery. Photograph before tidying, report it, keep the damaged parts. If a neighbour or a caretaker saw the door open earlier, say so: your insurer will find it useful.
